Abstract

How well one takes their medications as prescribed by their doctor is called medication adherence. Medicine adherence is important since inadequate adherence may lead to treatment failure and excessive medical costs. Community pharmacist-led programs improve patient adherence and health outcomes, according to growing data.

To review the research on community pharmacist-led interventions and their effects on patient adherence and health outcomes. Methods A search method was created to find global community pharmacy intervention reports. EMBASE, Medline, International Pharmaceutical Abstracts, Google Scholar, and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses were searched. Select articles fulfilling inclusion criteria were collected, data retrieved, and risk of bias assessed. Key Findings Twenty-two investigations were analyzed, and 26 peer-reviewed journal papers published their findings. Patient adherence, blood pressure, cholesterol, COPD, and asthma control increase with community pharmacist-led treatments. Interventions did not significantly improve diabetes or depression management in this study. Community pharmacist-led interventions improve adherence and disease control. Future study should determine which intervention components improve adherence and health outcomes for people with varied medical problems.
