Abstract

Mobile and wearable technologies enable personal health data to give significant value to healthcare practitioners and medical research. Personal health data exchange must be safe and simple to increase healthcare industry cooperation. Due to the potential privacy issues and vulnerabilities in current personal health data storage and sharing systems and the concept of self-sovereign data ownership, we propose a decentralized and permissioned blockchain-based user-centric health data sharing solution to protect privacy using channel formation and improve identity management using the blockchain's membership service. A smartphone app collects health data from wearable devices, human input, and medical equipment and syncs it to the cloud for healthcare practitioners and health insurers. Each record has a cloud-based proof of integrity and validation linked to the blockchain network to protect health data. For scalability and speed, we use tree-based data processing and batching to analyze massive mobile platform-uploaded personal health data sets.
